On an Eight Lane Track:

One Heat: One final.
Two Heats: 1st & 2nd plus two fastest times to final.
Three Heats: 1st & 2nd plus two fastest times to final.
Four Heats: 1st, 2nd, & 3rd plus four fastest times to two semis.

Five Heats: 1st plus three fastest times to final.
Six Heats: 1st plus two fastest times to final
Seven Heats: 1st & 2nd plus two fastest times to two semis.
Eight Heats: 1st plus eight fastest times to two semis
Nine Heats: 1st plus seven fastest times to two semis

ETC...
After eleven heats there must be three semis (as above for fourteen heats)

If there are ties in choosing the extra fastest times you have to add another semi-final with some empty lanes or fill the lanes with the next fastest times as long as no more problems causing a tie situation occur.

Lane Allotment:

All sprints must be run in lanes (60M, 100M, 200M, & 400M 60M Hurdles)
Suggestions for semis and finals:

On a six lane track:

fastest time in lane 3
second fastest time in lane 4
third fastest time in lane 5
fourth fastest time in lane 2
fifth fastest time in lane 6
sixth fastest time in lane 1

On an eight lane track:

100M fastest time in lane 4
200M second fastest time in lane 5
400M third fastest time in lane 6
fourth fastest time in lane 3
fifth fastest time in lane 7
sixth fastest time in lane 2
seventh fastest time in lane 8
eighth fastest time in lane 1

800M & 1500M Sections with 10 or more runners- try to place the fastest runners in the middle of the front row.
